Strong Practice in Houston and Coastal Bend

New partnerships, redesigned advising models, and real-time data are expanding college and career access across four large urban districts.

High-Quality Advising

Implementation Focus
  • Districts are embedding advising into the school day and redesigning staffing to reach more students despite tightening budgets

  • Aldine ISD is expanding OneGoal to roughly 6,000 students through its advisory period and tying teacher stipends to measurable student outcomes

  • Alief ISD continues implementing OneGoal alongside MasteryPrep and CollegeSpring

  • Corpus Christi ISD redesigned pathway guides with prerequisites, co-requisites, and campus-level seat counts, and Del Mar College advisors are visiting high schools to support FAFSA, applications, and TSI testing

  • Houston ISD is developing an in-house seminar course for structured postsecondary advising and using Bottom Line to support students in the top 6–25% of their class

What’s Next

Scaling structured advising to every student during the school day as districts work around counselor caseload constraints

Dual Credit and Advanced Coursework

Implementation Focus
  • Districts are deepening early college access through new partnerships and expanded grade-level eligibility
  • Alief ISD is launching Fast Forward 9 so 9th graders can earn up to nine dual credit hours in their first year, and drew 300 interested students to a Houston Community College pre-engineering recruitment event
  • Aldine ISD is partnering with Lone Star College on accelerated course options and piloting a 9-9 model that uses an asynchronous EDUC 1300 course to reduce the need for dual-credit-certified classroom teachers
  • Corpus Christi ISD completed dual credit registration packets ahead of schedule and is building a 15-hour pathway communication strategy with Del Mar College
What’s Next

Scaling access to 15+ transferable credits before graduation while working through the staffing and scheduling constraints of expanding dual credit sections

Real-Time Data Infrastructure

Implementation Focus
  • TUC is building CCMR and advising data infrastructure to move from static reporting toward real-time, action-oriented dashboards

  • Districts have built dashboards tracking applications, financial aid, CCMR indicators, and Outcomes Bonus funding

What’s Next

Rolling out real-time dashboards to campus leaders and building routines that connect data to advising and course placement decisions at the student level
